You manage communities – not own them

Mashable has a list of “10 Fresh Tips for Community Managers.” It’s a pretty good read worth your time.

Overall, it puts you in a frame of mind that might seem counter-intuitive. When people create communities, often their first instinct is to enforce standards. But communities tend to choose their own standards and direction.

Basically, you’re hosting the community for other people to interact not to satisfy your desire for control. If you can’t accept that, stick to a blog.
